Installation

How to install FlowForger and set up your development environment.

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 20 or later
  • npm 9 or later

Install from npm

npm install -g flowforger
flowforger --version
flowforger --help

Compiling, validating, and running flows without connectors works immediately. Anything that talks to Dataverse, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph or Power Automate (--auth, init, pull, push, diff, runs) needs an app registration in your own Entra ID tenant first: see App Registration.

VS Code extension

The FlowForger extension for Visual Studio Code (flowforger.flowforger-vscode, on the Visual Studio Marketplace) adds IntelliSense and diagnostics for .ff.ts files and a debugger for running flows locally with breakpoints. It ships with the same version number as the CLI. See VS Code extension.

Agent skills

If you use an AI coding agent, install the FlowForger skills into your project so the agent knows the DSL rules and the CLI:

flowforger skills install # into .claude/skills
flowforger skills install --dir skills # agent-agnostic top-level layout

See skills install and For AI Agents.

Building from Source

git clone https://github.com/tomdam/flowforger.git
cd flowforger

npm run build

Verify Installation

node packages/cli/dist/index.js --version
node packages/cli/dist/index.js --help
